New "Digital Tools for Manuscript Studies" Community Group
A group of us have been using Slack to communicate and collaborate about projects related to manuscript studies. However, on the free plan, Slack hides older (but still valuable) conversations and Q&As. Additionally, the invite link keeps expiring.
So, I have migrated all of the Slack group's data (minus passwords and direct messages) to a Zulip instance that I am self-hosting. Doing this has restored all of the previously hidden content. Zulip is very similar to Slack. To join this group for support and discussion, do one of two things:
- If you were a member of the Slack group, simply go to zulip.apatosaurus.io and request a password reset using the same email address you used in the Slack group.
- If you want to join this community for the first time, use this invite link to register a new account.
Hope to see you over there!

When editing an apparatus, it is now possible to edit any reading value without opening the entire form. To edit a reading value inline, click on it. An input should appear. Make edits then press Enter.

Apatosaurus down for ~20 minutes
My apologies if anyone was inconvenienced by a bug that caused Apatosaurus to be down for about 20 minutes on Friday, April 19th 2024.
The issue is resolved.

New (small) Feature
You can now automatically set the sorting number verses in a section by their name using a human-centric sorting algorithm.
This is helpful imported collations whose verses may not have been processed in the preferred order. Go to an apparatus section and scroll to the bottom of verses to see the new button.

Fix for importing very large collations
When importing a TEI collation, it is now divided into parts and processed in parallel. This is to fix a problem in which any process taking more than 15 minutes would timeout and fail. Normally this isn't a problem because users upload collations of a single verse to a whole chapter, but often not entire books.
However, in the case that someone were to prefer to import an entire book's worth of TEI collations, this is now supported. You will see in the background job section of your profile that large collations are divided and processed as "parts".

Announcing "Announcements"
This "Announcements" page has been added primarily for communicating new updates and bug fixes.
For example, I noticed in the error logs yesterday that some users were experiencing problems when trying to open the verse-level note in a collation and also when adding new witnesses. These issues should now be resolved.
The notification bell symbol will disappear after you have visited the announcement page. Bug fixes are usually pushed several times a week, and new features several times a month. I do not always have time to update the detailed documentation in the About pages, but I can now add a brief announcement as Apatosaurus receives updates whether they are bug fixes or new features.
